If you happen to be in your forties or fifties, most likely your first car was a real American muscle car. There happens to be a growing phenomena of people throughout the United States looking to purchase classic muscle cars to restore. The main reason for this particular fascination is that nobody is making these types of cars anymore. The big uncertainty is when is somebody going to make a real muscle car again?
Ford and Chevy still produce Mustangs and Camaros following their introduction throughout the sixties. The problem is the fact that with each passing version, they move away from the ferocious power of a muscle car into something more technically advanced. Will there actually be another car that's got a 327 and a 4 barrel carburetor? The depressing truth is we probably won't have one ever again.
The true issue is that people want to frequently make improvements to things just for the sake of it. One example is the classic 1967 Camaro, which is regarded as the all time great muscle car. In spite of its level of popularity, Chevy made a decision to stop making this particular version. And also this goes for the 1966 Mustang, an amazing car with a great style and they just gave up on making it.
However here comes the humorous thing. Volkswagen recognized the opportunity to reintroduce the VW Bug and they did. The newest Beetle sold well in spite of its ultra modern design. Had they stuck to the original style, they could have sold more. It's difficult to succeed if you always believe that doing things a new way is always better.
One of the most important question is certainly this. If Chevy thought they would go old style and build a Camaro with a 327 engine and 4 barrel carburetor and left out all the fancy technology, wouldn't you want one? I asked this question to practically many people throughout the years and they all said they would without delay get one. Then what could be the trouble? If you have a desire for something that is back-to-basics, shouldn't the car companies listen?
At what point is Ford, Chevy or even Pontiac going to say, you know what lets build a car like we used to. I'm certain that selling these unforgettable American cars will be very lucrative for the car companies. Until Ford and GM realize this, we will have people digging around junk yards and the Internet for classic muscle cars to rebuild.
No one knows possibly someday a muscle car enthusiast will end up with an influential position in one of those major automobile companies and be able to talk some sense into them. Regrettably the head people at these companies have got this belief, that if they think they are creating new and better muscle car, people will want it. For me personally I think it's about time to get back to the basics.
